Privacy Policy — Mylid
Last updated: 11 October 2026
1. Who we are
This privacy policy explains how personal data is handled when you use the website mylid.co.uk and the web apps Lid (mylid.app), Transparency (transparency.mylid.app), Sky Contours (sky.mylid.app) and Frost (frost.mylid.app), together “the Service”.
The Service is operated by Mark Mcletchie, who is the data controller. For privacy questions, contact hello@mylid.co.uk.
2. What we collect
The Service does not ask you to create an account.
- Location: If you tap the device-location button and allow access, your coordinates are used to show a forecast for that spot. You can refuse and still use the Service by searching or choosing on a map.
- Place names: When you type a place or drop a pin, that name or those coordinates are sent so we can find the spot and fetch the forecast.
- Saved places and preferences: Saved places, recent searches and your temperature unit (°C/°F) are stored in your browser on your device. We do not keep them on our servers.
- Technical data: Like most websites, our servers and hosting providers may temporarily log IP addresses and basic request data for security and operation. We do not use this to build profiles.
Cookies and similar technologies: The apps do not use cookies. They use your browser’s local storage only to keep the saved places and preferences you choose to save, which is strictly necessary for that feature. The website mylid.co.uk does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
3. How we use information and our lawful basis
We use the information above only to:
- show forecasts for the place you choose (consent, when you share your location; otherwise our legitimate interest in providing the Service you asked for);
- let you save places and preferences in your browser (storage you have requested, which is strictly necessary for that feature); and
- keep the Service working and secure (our legitimate interests).
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling.
4. Third parties
Forecasts and maps rely on third-party services. When you search or request a forecast, relevant place data, and in some cases your IP address, is received by:
- Open-Meteo (weather and air data); and
- mapping and geocoding providers (such as OpenStreetMap, Photon, BigDataCloud or similar).
These providers receive only what is needed for the request, and their own privacy policies apply to their processing. Some of them may be based outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers use for international transfers.
5. How long we keep information
Saved places and preferences stay in your browser until you remove them or clear the site’s data. Location and search data used for forecasts are not kept as a profile by us. .
6. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you. You may also ask us to restrict our use of it, object to its use, or withdraw consent at any time (for example, by turning off location permission in your browser or device settings).
Because we do not keep accounts or long-term profiles, most data stays on your device and can be cleared there. To clear saved places, remove them inside the app or clear browser data for the relevant site.
To use any of these rights, email hello@mylid.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), though we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
7. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and change the “last updated” date above. If a change is significant, we will make reasonable efforts to highlight it.
